John Joe Somers, owner and operator of the Somers Pubs Group, was recognized for his contribution to the senior community in Boston during a luncheon for the elderly to celebrate Saint Patrick’s Day . The luncheon and Irish Cabaret show is the brainchild of John Joe and has been an event that he has hosted for a number of years now.  “In this era of loud and raucous celebrations for Saint Patrick’s Day, there is no outlet for the elderly to celebrate this day”, responded John Joe when asked for his thoughts behind this event.  He also added, “In this, the City of the Irish, it is important that everyone gets an opportunity to celebrate their heritage”.

And the City of Boston obviously agrees – in recognition of John Joe’s efforts, Ms. Eliza Greenberg, Commissioner of Elderly Affairs for the City of Boston named John Joe Boston Seniority’s Man of the Year 2008. In presenting him with this award, Ms. Greenberg cited John Joe’s ongoing generosity stating that it is wonderful to see a local businessman give back to the community in such a “Hands-on” personal way.
